Michael M Newman was born in Jamaica and came to Canada at a young age with his parents and my older sister. He has three siblings, an older sister, who holds a Psychology and education degree and is currently teaching in the GTA region and two younger brothers. The older of the two is pursuing a Masters degree in Sociology and the younger is currently working on his Law degree and his MBA (Finance) degree.Mike has two beautiful daughters, Olivia (16) and Raven (11) who are both tremendous athletes and excel academically.
His education is a combination of Canadian and American universities and colleges. He holds degrees, diplomas and or certifications in Fitness and Health Programming, Health Science, Business Management and Neuro Linguistic Programming, which gives him the professional designation: Neuro Linguistic Practitioner. He is currently working on his Exercise Physiology certification and his goal as an exercise scientist is to identify the rate-limiting factors, sometimes called a weakness, and improve the individual’s capacity to perform that process or skill.
Besides being the Personal Training Manager at Gold’s Gym, he is also currently a Part time Professor at Fanshawe College where he’s been lecturing since 2002. He works for the Faculty of Business and the Faculty of Health Science where he teaches in the Fitness and Health diploma program.
Mike has been working in health clubs since 1992 and has held nearly every position from General Manager, corporate and individual sales, head trainer, personal training manager and customer service manager. He’s been a certified personal trainer for more than 18 years and has had the privilege of working with more than 4,000 clients in his career. He has a certification as a nutrition and wellness specialist and has been teaching, coaching and consulting individual and sports teams on health eating, sports nutrition and supplementation since 1994.
